All employers must be registered with the Workmen's compensation fund (WCF).

The WCF takes care of the medical claims for injury on duty for the employer's staff members.

This is a vital component with relation to industries such as mining, construction, manufacturing, etc., whereby injuries are more prone to happen on duty.

 This, the WCF would cover under certain provisions with relation to the Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act of South Africa.

The WCF return (also known to some as COID) is issued annually and the calculation comprises of the annual turnover received and annual salaries paid during a specific financial year.
